Longboat Key

Longboat Key is an affluent island town located off the coast of Manatee and Sarasota counties in southwest Florida. Twelve miles of soft white sand beaches, lush tropical greenery, and a championship golf course and tennis club make this island paradise a highly desirable luxury Gulf Coast community. Longboat Key offers the very best in resort-style coastal living with luxury high-rise condominiums, grand waterfront estates, and gated villa neighborhoods. With a population of 7000 residents, the Longboat Key community has a small-town ambiance with high-end amenities and attractions.

The first homes were built on Longboat Key in the early 1900s, some of which are still standing. In the 1920s John Ringling, the circus magnate, turned his attentions to Longboat Key and purchased hundreds of acres of property on the island. Ringling built Longboat Key’s first road, what is now Gulf of Mexico Drive, and planted Australian pine trees along the thoroughfare. He also built a Ritz-Carlton Hotel on New Pass in the late 20s, although it was never completed and was eventually torn down. Today Longboat Key is the luxury tro pical retreat that Ringling imagined with its idyllic upscale resorts, world-class leisure amenities and nearby cultural attractions, and plentiful fine dining.
